Learn About Commercial And Industrial Boilers

By Stephanie Johnson

A boiler refers to a closed vessel used for heating fluids such as water and air. Depending on the use of the fluid, it may be heated to boiling point or not. Some common uses for water or fluids heated in a boiler include sanitation, cooking, power generation, and central heating. Commercial and industrial boilers have been in use for a long time now, and they have evolved a lot to become very sophisticated pieces of equipment.

A new boiler is one of the most expensive acquisitions one can obtain. The high cost involved makes it necessary to plan and consider carefully before buying. There are certain factors that need to be considered carefully, including cost, material, efficiency, heating controls, boiler type, and fuel type. One should obtain quotes from various companies for comparison purposes in order to get the best price offers.

Most boiler models, with the exception of electric models rely on combustion of fuel to produce heat. Examples of fuels combusted include wood, gas, coal, and oil. Each energy source requires careful consideration because they all have various benefits and shortcomings associated with them. Coal and wood boilers are the oldest boiler models, with the former no longer being in production. Wood-burning models are usually a cheaper option because timber is cheaper and readily available. However, they may be inconvenient in some cases.

Advancements in technology have led to the invention of electric boiler models. Some people prefer these models because of the cleanliness and convenience they offer. However, they also come at a high maintenance and purchase cost. They use one of the two heating elements in existence, that is resistance-type or immersion-type.

The modern market has several kinds of boiler types to pick from. The classification of boilers can be based on several different aspects. One of the classifications places these product into major groups, that is, heat-only variants and combination models, which are also called combi. Combination models are on-demand products, providing heat for domestic hot water and radiators in the home. On the contrary, heat-only models get connected to storage systems for hot water.

Another key factor for consideration when making a purchase is the efficiency of the boiler. How efficient a boiler is can be measured using two different methods, that is, direct and indirect method. It is good to choose a product that will not emit a lot of CO gas inside or around the house. Efficiency is usually a major factor for consideration for people who mind their carbon footprint.

It is good to choose a product that allows one to choose which rooms to heat and when to do so. This is a good way of retaining control of energy bills that one has to pay. As such, the product chosen should have heating controls that help to manage heating activities in the home.

When shopping for a product, one should take a look at the various safety features it incorporates. There are regulatory organizations whose responsibility is to make sure that all products comply with safety standards in place. As such, one should request information about safety from the vendor.
