By Amanda Campbell

Mishandling of seniors is reported as being on the rise in various countries. These encounters are becoming a challenge in many families. Thus, we all have to protect our old loved ones and say no to any acts that lead to them being abused. The cases regarding elder abuse seem to be many in the retirement centers. Irrespective, those who end up being abusers of the aged and persons meant to be offering support to these vulnerable persons.

Implementing some changes on a vast scope can be a difficult undertaking. However, if these measures are applied from the community level and in specific senior care centers, much impact will ultimately be realized globally. Individual accountability and constant small-scale practices are of significance. It is this togetherness that will contribute to a healthy living of the vulnerable elderly persons among our communities.

Impacting in a significant way may be a challenge at the initial stages. But, if the recommendable approaches are used at the community level, the world will end up being changed. The issues that result in the mistreatment of these vulnerable persons will end up being addressed.

There are many ways that an aged can be abused. It could be mentally or physically. When we mean abusive physical deeds, we refer to scenarios where the abused may be struck or even punched. These can be witnessed through the inflicted bruises. Such situations can be devasting to not only the ill-treated person but also to their family members.

There is also the psychological mistreatment. These are scenarios where the aged person is demeaned, shouted at, or humiliated. It involves the use of inappropriate, abusive words when addressing the senior. For instance, referring an aged person as stupid can significantly affect them mentally.

In a scenario you suspect that your aged family member is suffering any ill-treatment, you must interrogate them and have facts to support your uncertainties. Trusting your beloved senior is vital. Statistics have confirmed that those aged in our community to face massive mistreatment are those in retirement settings.

Nevertheless, you must make sure the abusers are legally accused of any form of damage they might have caused to your loved senior. Moreover, if your senior resides in a facility, it is recommended you communicate the allegations to the manager in charge. Records affirm that most persons facing abuse are those in the senior care facilities.

If no fruitful measures to have your loved one under your care to end these mishandling, you may have to relocate your elderly member to a different facility. Although, legal actions must be taken against any victims confirmed to be abusive to the aged.
