Genetic changes that do not encompass the DNA in the gene function are called epigenome. Functionally applicable variations to the genome that do not encompass an alteration in the nucleotide classification. This changes only affect the genes that are expressed without necessarily altering the genetic material classification. These alterations may last for several generations even though they do not involve changes in the genetic material sequence of an organism. It is the study of changes in living things that are brought about by adjusting the gene character instead of changing the generic pattern as a whole. This concept of biology is able to control the heredity of an individual, in that it can render it active or inactive. This simply means that the genes of the person can either be held down or brought to light within a certain period of time.

Patterns of this concept are different in every individual, tissues in a person and varying body cells. The most common type of this generic modification is known as methylation. It involves connecting little molecules to different portions of the DNA. When this happens, that particular gene is silenced and it cannot produce any amount of protein.

Additionally, in case of some sicknesses and illnesses, some heredity properties could be redirected away from the healthy condition. These ailments are such as cancer. It is epi-genetics that brings about the uniqueness in each and every person in the world. This answers questions as to why the human race has a lot of variations in terms of skin color, taste, body structure among others.

For instance, overeating has been known to trigger the genes that carry obesity. This means that apart from hurting the very individual who overeats, it can leave significant effects on their offspring. This could put them at risk of developing killer diseases or even incidences of premature death.

In this account it is important to note that there are small subsection of inheritable factors called stamp genes. There are however two practical copies of each inheritable factors whereby one is from the mother and another from the father. Maternal or paternal subset of genetic factors that are methylated such that only one replica produces protein. It is imperative to note that majority of stamp genes are involved in regulating the growth of the embryo and also development of the placenta.

Scientists and experts in the biological sector are using information gathered from this concept so as to try and come up with new approaches to illnesses with genetic beginnings. They are slowly engaging in the manufacture of drugs that can be able to cut off faulty genes. This could be a great step in an effort to prevent and cure serious sicknesses such as cancer and diabetes.

Conclusively, it is imperative to note epigenetic study involves how the environment that is the toxins, exposures or even prolonged stress may lead to variations and this can be transgenerationally inherited. Environmental factors can lead to alteration in the gene factors that will subsequently affect the off springs. Inheriting these genes has been proven to be logical in as much as many studies have tried to counteract this.
