Should You Buy A Solar Cell Phone Charger Portland?

By Gary Wilson

For most people, their cell phone is almost an extension of themselves. They are convenient and mobile, which means they are battery-powered. What if you forget to recharge, or are away from a source of electricity for hours or even days? Many have turned to solar cell phone charger Portland to fill in the power gaps, but have found that there are some downsides to these devices. Simply put, they often don't work as well as you would like. There are some standouts in this product line, however.

If you're concerned that your older charger may be contributing to the demise of the planet, there's a simple way to test it. Just plug it in and feel if it becomes warm to the touch after a few minutes. This usually indicates that it is a linear power supply, which tends to be larger, bulky, and less capable of turning alternating current from the power grid into direct current that can be utilized by household appliances.

The best-known of the windmill types is the Solio. The three mini solar panels fan out to gain the most of the sun's rays, while being small enough to fit in a bag or pocket when folded closed. This device gets good reviews, though most note that it must be in full sunlight to charge properly and cannot be placed on its side once opened. It features a built-in battery, which is a nice feature and adds greatly to the Solio's utility.

Folding them is particularly important for large-sized panels, rendering them more powerful compared to the windmill kinds. When closed, they readily and easily fold into a bag for transport and storage. A popular brand is the Power Monkey explorer. This line is a bit pricey, however, and the Power Monkey is no exception. Users give these brand stellar reviews on the Earthtech Products site, so if you really need a reliable one, these deserve your consideration.

Again, it's not the individual wattage that makes a difference, but the impact all the appliances around the world have in combination. Certain appliances, such as DVD players that always remain in standby mode, are the worst offenders because they never really turn completely off. Some printers don't have an "off" button, and are known to sap a lot of extra electricity from the system.

In the last 10 years I think I have had over 5 different mobile handsets and 7 different chargers. It would have been nice over the years to not to have to get a different one with each handset. Now with so many being left over, I am starting to consider starting a mobile handset charger collection or maybe even starting charger art.

Most packages incorporate suction cups for attachment to the windshield or dashboard of a car, particularly helpful with the windmill type of charger. Almost every solar power one of them I viewed could be used to recharge other accessories such as MP3 players, Kindle, iPods and various gaming devices. Some come with adapters for charging different devices and brands of receivers, so check in advance whether a specific one that will work with your particular receiver.

This issue and how it affects the environment is relatively new, but with the advent of more efficient technology and the general public becoming more aware of climate change, the future seems bright.
