Facts To Know Concerning Fire Hose Testing

By Martha Patterson

Tests done on hose fire is a dangerous task therefore it calls for specialist to carry out this activity which requires the use of right procedure and tools. Lack of knowledge and failure to follow necessary procedure most often results to destruction of property and at times it can results to body injuries. The rubber manufactures association advocates for testing methods which are laid down. There are various methods which hose fire hose testing can be done.

It is worth knowing the amount of pressure indicated on the pipe before carrying out the exercise. The pressure is mostly indicated in the hosepipe. When carrying out this exercise one is actually advised that not to exceed the pressure indicated on the pipe. The condition of the entire pipe also needs to be thoroughly accessed before taking up the exercise.

The pipes which actually undergoes testing includes pre connects, rolls, hose bundles together with supply beds. Before the actual testing all these needs prior inspections. Damages and any sipping are actually identified during this stage. Gaskets and outer jackets also requires check ups for any damages. If these damages and defects are identified then the pipe basically requires replacement. Identification numbers are marked on the pipes. During testing then these numbers are used accordingly.

In determination whether there is a likelihood that the pipe would develop a weakness in any given time hold test is necessary. The length of the pipe and the amount of pressure applied is recorded. After about thirty minutes the pressure which was exerted is released. The length is then taken which is then termed as original length.

If the damages are beyond repair then such machine should not be used in carrying out the exercise. Also checking on the leakages of pressure leak integrity on the machine is necessary. This ensures that the pressurized outlet side together with all the components associated with it are free from leakages.

The time required to carry out the entire process basically depends on the capacity which the engine carries. The time to complete the entire process also depends on the availability of water and also the working environment. Mostly the entire process basically takes a maximum of three hours. It is advisable to test new hosepipes before subjecting them to any working condition.

When a company is hired to perform this pipe check up then they are needed to issue summary of their report in a hard copy document, completion certificate together with complete inventory in a CD. Proper pipe check up requires accurate, efficient and safe special equipment required for the entire exercise.

All other people whom are around the testing area are advised to clear from that scene leaving only the personnel who are conducting the exercise. The safety supervisor is required to issue all the personnel with a clear note before the actual process kicks off. Safety cones needs are placed in a distance of about twenty feet from where hose testing layout is being performed. Only the authorized staff whom are needed to be in that area where exercise is being conducted.
