By Robert Ross

Bats are not bad animals if they make their homes elsewhere away from the house because they help with insect control. They eat various bugs and mosquitoes, helping to keep them in check. However, bats that make nests inside the house are more destructive than they are productive and must be removed. Bat removal must be initiated immediately one notices the presence of the animals inside homes. This is because they make noise, dirty the place, and may cause diseases among other problems.

Bats are a protected species in most countries. That makes it illegal to remove them. One is required hire a specialist to have the animals removed. The removal process needs to be well-thought out by considering several factors before engaging in it.

Choosing the right time of the year is very important for the success of the whole evacuation process. One should choose a time of the year when the bats are not having pups. Removing the adults while they are having pups is inhumane because the pups will definitely die. Pups cannot be accessed for removal in most cases because bats makes nests very deep into hollows on the house.

When the pups are left behind, they may cause a terrible smell in the house for a very long time. Maternity season in the United States and Canada begins in the month of May and ends in August. Therefore, removal efforts should be carried out after or before these period. During winter, bats go into hibernation due to cold weather and lack of food.

The first step in the removal of bats is identification of all points on the home they use to get into their nests. One should check the floor because there should be droppings at entrances. Droppings produced by bats usually have insects shells comprised within them. Inhalation of fumes from the droppings should be avoided. This is to avoid contracting histoplasmosis, which is a disease that is more likely to affected those who are old, young, or sickly.

There are several methods one can use to remove the animals, including use of pesticides, smoking, and blocking of entry points. Blocking of entry points should be done at night when the bats have left their nests so that they are not blocked inside. Because some bats will definitely be blocked inside their nests, one should unblock the entry points during the day so that they can leave.

Hunger will drive out the remaining bats as they need to feed. After this, one should inspect the rest of the home to make sure that there are no other points through which the bats can regain entrance into the house. The bats should be gone by the next day. They never return into the home unless they discover another entrance point to access nesting points.

It is more recommendable to use one-day devices over blocking entrances. Local stores that stock related products should have these devices. One may also easily make the device from home. The materials needed for making the product from home include empty caulk containers, PVC pipes, and netting.
